Fibre grades

Fineness is the main driver of softness and price. We sell by measured mean fibre diameter, with the test report attached to every lot.

GradeMean fibre diameterTypical useMean lengthCoarse hair
Extra fine14.0 to 14.5 μmFine-gauge knitwear, worsted yarn[EDIT][EDIT]
Fine14.5 to 15.5 μmKnitwear and woven scarves[EDIT][EDIT]
Standard15.5 to 16.5 μmWoollen-spun yarn, heavier knits[EDIT][EDIT]

What counts as cashmere

For products sold in the United States, the label may say cashmere only if the fibre's average diameter is no more than 19 microns, with a coefficient of variation of no more than 24%, and no more than 3% by weight of fibres over 30 microns (16 CFR 300.19). All our grades are well inside that limit; check the rules of your own market too.

How lots are tested

Mean fibre diameter and distribution by an accredited laboratory using an optical fibre diameter method, plus length, coarse hair content and fibre identification to confirm no wool or yak blending. Lab: [EDIT].

Buyer questions

What micron is your cashmere?

We sell three grades from 14.0 to 16.5 microns mean fibre diameter. The test report for each lot states the measured value.

Can I visit the plant?

Yes, by arrangement in Ulaanbaatar.

What is the minimum order?

It depends on the product. Send the product and quantity through the form and we reply with the MOQ.

Which documents come with a shipment?

Commercial invoice, packing list, lot test report and certificate of origin. Raw animal fibre may also need a veterinary or sanitary certificate depending on the destination; we confirm this per order.

Is your cashmere certified sustainable?

[EDIT: only certificates actually held, e.g. Sustainable Fibre Alliance, with numbers]

What are your payment terms?

[EDIT: payment terms]

Specifications are confirmed per lot by test report. Composition labelling rules differ by market; buyers are responsible for the labels on their finished products.
